“We must build the capacity of individuals who believe in the principle of subsidiarity — that local problems must be solved with local solutions.”
The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Boards of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) and the Council of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS).
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Hon. Ibrahim emphasized the government’s commitment to the Resetting Ghana Agenda, noting that a key pillar of this initiative is building the capacity of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Assembly Members, and by extension, staff of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), to enhance effective and efficient service delivery.
“We need to deepen our understanding of decentralization, local governance, and sub-national development,” the Minister stated. “We must build the capacity of individuals who believe in the principle of subsidiarity — that local problems must be solved with local solutions.”
He further revealed plans to issue a directive to all MMDAs to establish a permanent Physical Public Data Room at a location accessible to the public during working hours. This initiative, he said, is aimed at promoting transparency and ensuring orderly development at the local level.
“As we pursue the Resetting Ghana Agenda, we cannot continue to do things the same way and expect better outcomes,” Hon. Ibrahim said. “The status quo must change, and I am counting on this Governing Board to help change the narrative.”
