A ONE WEEK RESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE COURSE FOR DISTRICT AND REGIONAL COORDINATING DIRECTORS MANAGING LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FOR RESPONSIVE, EFFECTIVE, EFFICIENT AND ACCOUNTABLE SERVICES

 

The Institute of Local Government Studies in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGRD), Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is organizing a One Week Residential Executive Management Certificate Course for District and Regional Coordinating Directors on ‘Managing Local Governments for Responsive, Effective, Efficient and Accountable Services’ from Monday March 13-17, 2023 at the Institute of Local Government Studies Accra campus.

 

The Executive Management Course is designed for Coordinating Directors working at the Offices of the District Assemblies and Regional Coordinating Councils to improve their competences, skills and attitudes to enable them master the art of managing local governments (LGs) as corporations. The course is also designed from the functions and responsibilities assigned to Coordinating Directors.

These functions have been translated into performance indicators of Coordinating Directors and would be the basis for assessing their accomplishments.

 

By the end of this course, Coordinating Directors; amongst others will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of management in local government administration;
  • Develop the key ingredients that are needed to manage the offices of DA and RCC to achieve improved professionalism in administrative and service delivery standards;
  • Appreciate the concept of public administration, decentralisation and public management
  • principles, and the legal framework for their operationalization in Ghana and at the subnational government level (DA & RCCs);
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical and professional issues in contemporary public administration and how they relate to the individual in a work and societal context etc.

 

The course consists of fourteen taught sessions and one ‘Management in Action Project’ (Do Shop) delivered in five days. The taught sessions will be delivered in the form of lecture seminars, case study analysis, interactive, and skill-focused training that gives participants ample opportunity to discuss and reflect on, as well as simulate the practice of the new knowledge and skills. Participants would benefit from discussions and experience sharing with outstanding facilitators with a lot of experience in the chosen subject areas. In addition, participants would also exchange ideas and solve problems in peer group setting

 

At the end of the training, participants will be awarded Certificates upon successful completion of the course.
